Overview

Employee State Insurance (ESI) is a self-financing social security scheme under ESI Act, 1948. It's mandatory for establishments with 10+ employees (in some states) where employees earn up to Rs. 21,000/month. Employer contributes 3.25% and employee 0.75% of wages. Benefits include medical care, sickness, maternity, disability, and dependent benefits.
